Frome 42.jpg

Alongside its range of utilitarian objects for the home and traditional hardware shop paraphernalia, including tools, cleaning products, candles and soaps, Frome Hardware offers expert laser etching and cutting. This service is available on a wide range of materials, and bespoke items can be made to order. One-off items and batches of products can all be accommodated and are all completed in the shop. Available for commission by the public or businesses, Frome Hardware combines this contemporary service with the traditional expectations of an old fashioned hardware shop.

Penleigh Farm Butchers

Run by local farmer Owen Singer, Penleigh Farm Butchers have tradition and quality at the heart of everything they do. From free-range farming and slow meat production to providing an easy-going, friendly service, they maintain a personal relationship with customers, offering advice on the right choice of cuts and how best to prepare your meat. Alongside the meat raised on their own farm, Penleigh Farm Butchers also work with other local farmers and suppliers whose methods and ethos closely match their own. Owen is the fourth generation of farmers in his family, working with the land and animals on their farm just outside Frome on the border of Somerset and Wiltshire. Alongside their meat and poultry, they often stock game as well as Lovetts Pies and sausage rolls by Little Jack Horners. Based on Stony Street, Penleigh opens Tuesday – Saturday, and also on market Sundays.

Postscript Fome

Postscript sits halfway up the cobbled hill on Stony Street. Much more than your average stationers, Postscript sells a range of exquisite stationery, chic office supplies and art and craft materials to die for. They also host local experts who run workshops for grown-ups, on anything from calligraphy to print making. They also run crafty children’s parties. Not satisfied with establishing a stationery shop of distinction, owners Garry and Rachel soon discovered the untapped talents of their team and nurtured their growth, meaning they can now offer a full design and printing service for everything from business cards to bespoke wedding invitations. Their ethos has always been at the forefront of what they do: to get things right for the customer. And they seem to be doing that brilliantly.

The WHY Gallery

The WHY Gallery is both an exhibition space and a makers’ shop. Each month the gallery space is used for an exhibition of work by local artists, with hugely varying styles and mediums - from illustration to embroidery, painting to sculpture. The WHY Gallery has become renowned for stocking an amazing selection of contemporary jewellery by exciting new designers, as well as a large range of prints, homewares, textiles, cards, baskets and bags, ceramics and soaps. This is a little gallery with a big heart as it is run to raise funds for We Hear You, a Frome-based charity which offers free, professional counselling to children and adults affected by life-threatening illness. A percentage from all sales goes directly to We Hear You, while the rest goes to the artists and makers.
